North-east fuel company supports New Lease of Life appeal

A north-east fuel supply company has donated £10,000 to a new care home on the outskirts of Aberdeen.

Connon Brothers Coal and Oil is supporting the New Lease of Life appeal by Simeon Care for the Elderly, part of the Camphill movement.

Simeon currently cares for 18 people, but the campaign will allow a new £2million facility with 23 ensuite rooms to be built within the grounds at Cairnlee Road, Bieldside.

The donation from Tipperty-based Connon Brothers will be used to pay for a feature fireplace in the main communal area of the new building.

It is hoped it will create a focal point for residents and visitors.

Dave Ronald, general manager of Connon Brothers, said: “When we heard about the New Lease of Life appeal we were keen to visit and find out more.

“Within minutes of arriving at Simeon we knew it was a project that Connon Brothers could support – we were so impressed by what we saw and heard.

“The plans are very exciting and we are delighted to be able to play our part in a project that will make a real difference to the residents of Simeon now and those in the future. We have made the pledge as a mark of our appreciation of the work being done by everyone at Simeon.”

Gayle Johnston, Simeon’s fundraising manager, said: “The Connon Brothers donation really is phenomenal and we cannot thank everyone at the company enough.

“We were absolutely speechless when we were told about the figure involved.”
