A woman was left “shaken and upset” after a terrifying assault in front of her children after being locked in her home.

Jamie Steele appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday – via video link from HMP Grampian – and pleaded guilty to assault, behaving in an aggressive manner, damaging property and obstructing police during an incident last month.

Police were forced to use leg restraints on the 26-year-old when he was arrested on June 24.

Fiscal Susan Love told the court that the episode began with a minor argument, but spiralled when the woman tried to leave the property and found the accused had locked the door.

She said: “He pushed the woman to the chest area with both of his hands then punched a cupboard door twice.”

Steele removed the woman’s glasses, “which resulted in her not being able to see”, and punched the kitchen door several times, creating large holes.

The woman called the police then waited nervously on the couch with her children.

When police arrived, Steele ripped a radio earpiece from an officer and shouted “I’m not coming easily”. Officers used leg restraints to hold Steele down and arrest him.

Police noted the woman was left “shaken and crying”.

Defence agent Iain Sutherland said his client had “significant alcohol issues”.

Sheriff Graeme Napier deferred sentencing on Steele, whose address was given as Cardens Knowe in Aberdeen, until August 4.
