An Aberdeen community has been placed on high alert after a thief stole more than £10,000 worth of money and jewellery in a “frightening” overnight break-in.
Police issued an appeal for information after the “high value theft” left residents on Mugiemoss Road shaken.
The collection of jewellery and a sum of cash were taken from the Bucksburn street between midnight and 6am on Sunday.
Worried residents said police had told them to be on their guard against any further crime.
Officers have since visited the street to make sure that people are locking their doors and windows following the incident.
One woman living on the road said she had been told the thief managed to enter the affected property by climbing a fence and sneaking through a back window.
She added: “The thought of someone going through your house when you’re inside is not nice.”
Councillor for Dyce, Bucksburn and Danestone, Avril MacKenzie, said: “I feel very sorry for the residents – it must be a horrible feeling to have intruders in your home.
“I’m assuming the residents must have been in the property – that’s the most frightening part – anything could have happened to them.”
A gym bag was also stolen from the property.
