Residents in the suburbs of Aberdeen have been urged to be on their guard after a spate of sneak-in thefts this week.

Several properties were targeted in the Hazlehead and west end areas of the city between Monday and yesterday, with handbags, cash and electrical items taken.

Homes in the Queens Den and Westholme Avenue areas were hit overnight by thieves in the early hours of Tuesday.

Woodlands Avenue, off Craigton Road, and Baillieswells Grove, were similarly targeted 24 hours later, prompting police to issue an appeal.

Constable John Richardson said: “We have issued numerous security messages highlighting the issue of sneak-in thefts and have continued to urge residents to lock their doors, but I would like to remind people once again that they have to remain vigilant in securing their property, as opportunistic thieves are still targeting numerous areas.”

Councillor for Hazlehead, Jennifer Stewart, said last night: “I would urge residents to call 999 if they see anything suspicious, as these incidents will be very worrying to many of my constituents.

“It is a sad state of affairs that for your own safety, you have to keep your doors locked, but people must be extra-vigilant as it only takes a minute to have a handbag, or laptop stolen, but has a huge impact on the victim.”
