An Aberdeen nursery has received a glowing report from inspectors.

Staff at Broomhill Nursery in Cults were praised for forming positive relationships with children and families, and creating a “nurturing” environment.

Education Scotland inspectors also said they hoped to share some of its ideas so others could benefit.

A team visited in early June to assess children and staff performance and appraise the facilities.

Youngsters were found to be happy and relaxed, and those in the pre-school rooms were commended for concentrating very well for their age and stage of development.

They were also “strongly encouraged” to follow their own interests.

Inspectors commented that the nursery had a very good range of experiences and resources to interest all youngsters.

Pre-school children were reported to be making excellent progress in developing their early literacy and language skills, as well as numeracy and mathematics.

Many were able to write and identify their own names – with the majority also able to count and identify numbers through songs, rhymes and board games.

The facility was graded “very good” for its care and support, quality of environment and staffing – as well as its management and leadership – and inspectors said children were increasingly involved in contributing to their nursery’s improvement.

The report said: “The nursery intends to continue to develop children’s input to improvement. It is very well placed to continue to improve and provide a very high quality service for all who choose, use or work there.

“During the inspection, we identified aspects of innovative practice which we would like to explore further in order to share the practice with others.”
