It was the super yacht that caused a stir when it docked amid the rabble of offshore vessels in Aberdeen Harbour.

And yesterday, the captain of superyacht, the Vive La Vie, spoke about his life on the seas.

Captain Dirk Muller-Arnecke, 33 – of Bremen, Germany – has been at the helm of the vessel – which has a crew of 13 – for a year now.

Speaking yesterday from Aberdeen Harbour, Mr Muller-Arnecke said: “We’re here just here for a visit, we came here from the islands, from Shetland and Orkney and then we’re going to Belfast. It’s out first time here.”

The yacht moored in Aberdeen Harbour’s Regent Quay at around 10.50am on Sunday, having stopped off in Lerwick and Stromness.

The vessel is owned by Swiss millionaire, Willy Michel, who founded Ypsomed, a firm which specialises in medical infusions systems.

He said the owner and his eight guests had arrived in Aberdeen to ‘have a look around’, adding that they had been in Norway and Iceland previous to coming to Scotland.

Among the highlights of his career so far are getting to visit the Amazon River, and sailing the Pacific ocean.

He said: “We’re always going around, all around the world. The Amazon is really nice, so is the south Pacific, Australia and New Zealand.”

He added that he had sailed “all of the oceans” during the career.

The sailor said growing up near the coast in Bremen played a “little” part in him wanting to take to the seas, leading to him eventually attending Maritime school.

The Vive La Vie is due to leave Aberdeen on Wednesday.
