Runners of all ages are being encouraged to sign up for the first ever Dandara 5K race in Aberdeen.

The event at Hazlehead Park on Saturday, August 30, is being organised by the Friends of Hazlehead and Sport Aberdeen.

It will feature a 1,200m and 2k race for children, as well as an adult 5k, with 500 spaces available across both age groups.

The event is aimed at runners of all abilities, from beginners to competitive athletes.

The day will also feature music from the Bon Accord Brass Band and a “fun events village”.

Runners will pass through key landmarks in the park as they raise funds towards updating many of the areas.

A wide-ranging programme of work is planned for Hazlehead Park, including the replanting of the Queen Mother Rose Garden, an improved path network, sign-posted running routes and improvements to the popular pets’ corner.

Gary Walker, of the Friends of Hazlehead, said: “We really hope this year’s event will be a fantastic day out for everyone, and become a firm fixture in the city’s running calendar.

“The park is always at its best when there are lots of people using it and we hope to see many adults and children here on the day.”

Dandara sales manager, Gillian Roberts, said: “The Dandara 5k, kids’ races and activities are a fantastic way to get people out and about, enjoying the city.

“We are always more than happy to help support our local community and we hope more people sign up to take on this fun and exciting new route.”
