A man has been fined after he sent a string of threatening texts to his partner after she cleared their joint bank account.

Euan Leslie appeared from custody at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday and admitted sending “grossly offensive” and “menacing” messages to Deborah Moggach on June 5 this year.

The court heard that the couple had been having difficulties in their relationship at the time.

Fiscal depute Karen Dow said that the pair had been together for seven years and have a five-year-old son.

At the time of the offence they had been living at 24 Gardenston Street, Laurencekirk, Aberdeenshire. Ms Dow said that on June 3 Ms Moggach started to become suspicious of her partner and after he left for work that night he failed to return the next day.

The court heard that Leslie had left Scotland and was at that point living in England. As a result he text his partner to ask if she could send him some documents.

However she refused and cleared their joint back account of all their money leaving him without access to cash.

Ms Dow said that this angered Leslie and he sent her a series of threatening messages which included “keep your blinds open” and told her to “watch around her”.

Fearing for her safety due to the contents of the messages Ms Moggach called the police and Leslie was arrested on Tuesday night.

Representing the truck driver solicitor Laura Gracie said that her client had not intended to cause Ms Moggach alarm when he sent the messages and said he just reacted as he was angry she had left him without any money.

She said the couple were now back together and living at home again and hope to make their relationship work for the sake of their son.

Leslie, 46, was fined £700.
