A cyclist has been seriously injured in a collision involving a car on one of Aberdeen’s busiest roads.
Police closed the northbound carriageway of North Anderson Drive, between Mastrick Road and Provost Fraser Drive, following the incident at 4pm – which is causing major traffic disruption in the city.
Police vehicles, an ambulance, a rapid response unit and two fire engines attended the scene.
The seriously-injured cyclist was taken to Aberdeen Royal Infirmary by ambulance.
His bike and helmet were among the debris left strewn across the roadway.
The occupants of a silver BMW which was also involved in the collision escaped serious injury.
The car could be seen lying on its side beside a mangled lamppost with the passenger side of the windscreen smashed.
A section of wooden fence lay destroyed on the verge of the busy road.
A Stagecoach CityConnect bus, full of passengers, was waiting on the road just behind the BMW.
It was not clear if it was involved in the accident.
It is understood another bus was being sent to take the passengers on to Inverness.
The area has been cordoned off by police tape and traffic is being diverted down Ashgrove Road West.
Investigating officer Sergeant Ian Falconer said the investigation was in its “very early stages” and that the road would be closed for several hours.
Accident investigators will carry out a detailed inspection of the road surface in search of clues.
North Anderson Road resident James Sim, 38, drove along just moments after the crash occurred.
He said: “There were four paramedics and six firefighters helping to put the cyclist on a spinal board.
“Then they got him into the ambulance and drove away.
“We got a real shock. We had to cover my daughter’s face – she is only four.”
