Aberdonains urged to donate clothes to city alcohol dry-out centre

Albyn House, Dee Street, is a designated safety place for drunk people in Aberdeen

An Aberdeen charity is seeking clothing donations towards their safety centre for drunk people in the run-up to winter.

Alcohol Support will distribute the second hand clothes to their services users, enabling them to be well wrapped-up when they leave the charity’s designated safety facility, Albyn House, on Dee Street.

The building – this week reprieved from a Police Scotland funding withdrawal – caters for those discovered drunk and incapable in the city.

They are appealing for jackets, jumpers, shoes, jeans and pajamas from members of the public.

Brian Cowie, of Alcohol Support, said: “At this time of year especially, we are finding a number of people who are referred to unit don’t have sufficient appropriate clothing so we’re appealing for donations from the public to help us ensure that individuals are adequately covered prior to leaving the designated place of safety.

“We’re on the lookout for any unused winter warmers, including jackets, jumpers and even pajamas. Underwear, socks and tights are also very welcome.

“The donations would both be a massive help to us as well as being greatly appreciated by so many associated with the charity. Your generous donation could really make a big difference this winter.”

Donations can also be made at the Alcohol Support premises at 76-78 Dee Street, Aberdeen.
