Football fans have been warned about offensive flags, alcohol, smoke bombs and flares ahead of the Scottish Premiership match on Sunday.

Chief Superintendent Adrian Watson, Police Commander for Aberdeen City, said he wanted supporters to enjoy the game – but be sensible and stay out of trouble.

The force have ruled that alcohol is not allowed on buses travelling to the game, and officers will be carrying out searches this weekend.

Anyone found in possession of alcohol could be charged.

Police will also be carrying out strict searches at Pittodrie for “pyrotechnics and offensive flags or banners”.

Those found in possession of any of these items inside the stadium will be arrested and may appear at court.

The game is a near-sellout and fans are also being urged to arrive at the stadium in good time.

Chief Superintendent Adrian Watson, Police Commander for Aberdeen City, said: “This game is always an eagerly anticipated fixture at Pittodrie and there have been relatively few issues over the past few years, which is credit to both clubs.

“With Aberdeen Football Club, we look forward to welcoming fans to the ground on Sunday and ask that they arrive in good time, respect others attending and of course enjoy the game.”
