Melville’s luxury Gleneagles house repossessed

A bank has repossessed a two-storey house near Gleneagles from the Melville brothers.

Clydesdale Bank took possession of a property called Glenuyll on Caledonian Crescent, Auchterarder, from Calum and Stuart following a short hearing at Perth Sheriff Court this week .

Sheriff William Wood ruled in favour of the bank after no legal representatives for the Melvilles turned up.

It is understood that the four-bedroom property, which was built in the 1980s and recently on the market for offers over £975,000, was repossessed due to mortgage arrears.

Caledonian Crescent is a stone’s throw away from the famous golf resort which hosted the Ryder Cup in September.

People who live in the leafy private road, which is lined with large, handsome homes, many of which are protected by electric gates, reported that the property, set in 1.2 acres of land, has lain empty for most of the last five years.

The dilapidated automatic wooden gate to the house is broken and lying open.

One neighbour said the brothers had not been seen in the street for years.

They claimed the house was rented out for a while a few years ago and used by members of the Melville family during the Ryder Cup.

The neighbour said people had expressed interest in buying the property but lawyers had been unable to contact the brothers.

“The place is in a terrible state,” said the neighbour.

“It is a shame and I wish it was sold because I am afraid squatters will move in.”

A spokesman for Clydesdale Bank said it could not comment on individual cases.
