Student rowers are preparing for the 20th annual boat race between Aberdeen’s two universities.
The Robert Gordon University team have defeated their Aberdeen University rivals for the past three years on the race along the River Dee, winning by a mere two lengths in 2014.
Both teams of 18 rowers have been undergoing training for the big day in March, when they will race more than two miles down the river.
RGU Boat Club president Emily Geddes, 20, said: “Last year we made it a hat trick and we are going all out to make it four in a row.
“We won’t be taking anything for granted and are working hard to hold onto the title.”
Tom Coles, 21, studies computer science at Aberdeen University and is president of its rowing club.
He said: “We may not have won last year, but we came very close and we also succeeded in breaking the previous boat race record.
“We are confident that we will see the title return to Aberdeen University in 2015, we’re full of fighting spirit and will be going all-out to achieve victory.”
The 2015 boat race, which is sponsored by Aberdeen Asset Management, will take place on March 21 at 2.20pm, starting at the Bridge of Dee in Garthdee and ending at the Aberdeen Boat Club.
