Royal Air Force fighter jets from Lossiemouth have flown across one of the seven natural wonders of the world, the Grand Canyon.
A squadron from the Moray base have flown to across the Atlantic to the USA via a series of stop-offs to take part in the largest air fighting exercise in the world, Exercise Red Flag.
The squadron of RAF Typnoon FGR multi-role fighters were pictured soaring above the gorges of the grand canyon, and posted on the RAF’s twitter feed.
A spokesman for the RAF said: “When trailing fast jets over long distances we need to remain within 90 minutes of a diversion airfield lest we have any problem with one of the aircraft.
“We also have to factor in the sea temperature to ensure that in the unlikely event of a pilot having to eject that they are able to survive in the water for as long as possible.
“This means we were unable to fly directly across the Atlantic in one go, and instead staged through the Azores, Bermuda, and the east coast of the USA.
