Tributes have been paid to a former north-east junior boxing star who has died.
Darren Flint was diagnosed with terminal cancer last year and was told he only had three weeks to live.
But the 42-year-old Sheddocksley man managed to fight the condition for six months before he succumbed to the disease on January 31.
He is survived by two children, aged 11 and three, mother Jacqueline and brothers, Steven Moore, 45, and Terry, 39.
His mother, who lives in Mastrick, has praised her son’s spirit in his final months.
She said: “He just would not accept he had cancer and just fought it.”
Darren, a social security officer, was a former junior Scottish light to middleweight boxer and competed in various national competitions until his late 20s before retiring.
Darren’s funeral is on Thursday and all friends are invited.
