First Minister Nicola Sturgeon sported a new pair of wellies as she cut the soil for the Aberdeen by-pass at the Balmedie interchange.
Ms Sturgeon said it was a “landmark day” for the north east with construction now underway on the largest roads project in the UK.17
She said construction would support around 1,500 jobs and over 100 apprenticeships.
“This is one of the most important developments in the north east and it has been a long, long time coming.
“I know if has been particularly frustrating for people in Aberdeen but construction is now underway,” she said.
She said the AWPR was due to be completed six months ahead of schedule in 2017.
Mrs Sturgeon’s advisers bought her a new pair of wellies for the soil cutting after she arrived in Aberdeen with only high heels.
