“Dearest Thief” …Aberdeen shop owner writes open letter after watch theft

An Aberdeen concept store has penned an open letter to a thief who stole a rare watch from them yesterday.

In the letter posted online, the owners of Peltoniemi Concept Store, on Chatton Place, warned the burglar not to wear the watch – as it’s one of only two in the Granite City.

The Triwa Lansen Chrono brand watch is worth around £230 and the brand is not sold by any other retailers in Aberdeen.

The owners also warned the burglar not to try selling it on eBay or Gumtree, as they would be personally checking for its appearance online.

They also appealed for the thief to “do the right thing” and return it to the shop, adding that they had reduced shop workers to tears.

The shop is owned by Tytti Peltoniemi, a fashion designer originally from Finland.

The letter, which begins “Dearest Thief”, states: “Please return the watch. We’ll forgive you, no hard feelings, everyone makes mistakes.

“Pop the watch in the envelope and return it to us on our address. We have paid for it with hard earned cash, we’re a small team of just a couple of young women on minimum salary, not a corporation.

“We work so incredibly hard in trying to make a difference in (the) Aberdeen shopping scene and it’s after (a) long five and a half years in business that you decided to be our first thief. Choose not to be that first person. Return the watch please.”

The letter, posted yesterday, also details how the robber removed the watch from its box, hiding it “shamefully” before nicking it.

It adds: “Did you put the watch in your pocket or a bag – we don’t know but the act makes us very sad.

“It’s not a Rolex or an Omega that you can sell on the streets – there aren’t anyone else selling Triwa watches anywhere near here and everytime you wear it.

“You’ll have to be careful because we know it’s stolen. Thousands of our customers know now it’s stolen.

“There’s only one other Midnight Lansen Chrono in Aberdeen and we know the happy owner of that one.”
