A jealous man who was jailed for slashing his love rival with a rusty carving knife was back in the dock yesterday following another row over his ex.
Kevin Reid, also known as Pope, was sentenced to 39 months in prison in 2013 after he admitted cutting David Smith’s bowel in four places.
At the time the court heard Pope carried out the unprovoked attack in Aberdeen’s Marchburn Road after he became suspicious that his former girlfriend was being unfaithful with Mr Smith.
Mr Smith was left with a wound – inflicted with a rusty or dirty carving knife – which was so severe part of his intestines could be seen.
He needed surgery and spent four days in hospital.
Yesterday Pope, who was released early from his last prison sentence, admitted assaulting another man with a knife after he again thought he was having an affair with his former partner.
Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard the 25-year-old carried out the attack on Craig Robertson on December 28 after finding him in his ex partner’s flat.
Fiscal depute Samia Rasheed said Pope had let himself into her home, without permission, and refused to leave once he was inside.
Mrs Rasheed said that Pope then “jumped to conclusions” in a jealous rage and tried repeatedly to punch Mr Robertson on the head.
Pope then entered the kitchen and grabbed a knife before chasing his victim around the flat until Mr Robertson locked himself in the bathroom.
Mrs Rasheed said Mr Robertson was “terrified” by the whole incident and stood against the bathroom door to keep Pope away from him.
However, she said Pope then started to stab the knife through the door. narrowly missing Mr Robertson on the other side.
Pope then eventually managed to prise the door open and used it to strike Mr Robertson on the body to his injury.
The attack only stopped when Pope’s former girlfriend left the building and he followed her.
Sheriff Graham Buchanan said that because the offence was committed while Pope, a prisoner at HMP Grampian, was on a supervised release order, background reports would be required before he could be sentenced.
He was remanded in custody.
