Vandals compare Aberdeen park toilet to Tory HQ

A Conservative general election candidate has attacked “mindless” vandals who spray painted an Aberdeen toilet block with the words “Tory party HQ”.

The attack on the council-owned block in Victoria Park is understood to have taken place at the same time as the Tories West Mount Street office was daubed with a swastika and a Q – believed to stand for Quisling.

Labour’s office on Rosemount Place was also targeted with a Q painted on the front door.

Police say they are keeping an “open mind” about a link between the three.

Councillor Ross Thomson, who hopes to win the Aberdeen South seat for the Conservatives at the upcoming general election, said the attack was “disappointing”.

He said: “It’s sad that people would resort to vandalism and graffiti to get their point across when we live in an active democracy where they could take part in the process like anyone else.

“There is also a very active friends group in the park who work so hard to keep the place looking good and I know that they’ll be heartbroken by this.

“It’s disappointing that the money to clean this up will have to come from the public purse as well, so this attack is basically hitting ordinary taxpayers in the pocket.”

A police spokeswoman said: “Inquiries are ongoing and we’re keeping an open mind about whether the attacks are related.

“We understand the attacks happened at the same time.”
