A homeless charity has been awarded two large donations to help fund its services.

Aberdeen Cyrenians received £18,000 from oil company Chevron Upstream Europe and £18,170 from law firm Raeburn Christie Clark and Wallace.

The wives of the chief executives of Chevron based in London and the United States travelled to Aberdeen yesterday morning to present the donation.

The money will go towards the charity’s street alternatives project, which provides meals, showers and laundry services to homeless people.

Laura Easton, stakeholder engagement and social investment advisor at Chevron, said: “We have been working with the Cyrenians for 20 years and are proud to support an organisation that provides essential services to people in our community affected by homelessness.”

The Raeburn Christie Clark and Wallace donation will be used for the Cyrenians’ violence against women project, which provides services including one-to-one support and a group programme aimed at building confidence and self-esteem.

The company’s fundraising activities included a dinner dance, quiz nights, a Burns supper and numerous running events.

Heather Stephen, a partner at the firm, said: “We have thoroughly enjoyed working with Aberdeen Cyrenians to raise such a fantastic amount of money.

“They are a worthy charity with a personable and dedicated team who work tirelessly and enthusiastically to deliver help, advice and support.”
