A shamed dentist who was struck off for drugging and groping an 11-year-old patient cruised past a school in his car – so he could look at teenage girls in their uniforms.
Serial sex offender Michael Evans – who has a history of fantasising about young girls – was yesterday banned from leaving his home while children are walking to and from school.
Aberdeen Sheriff Court heard that the 48-year-old spent almost a month crawling past Banchory Academy in his car so he could look at two teenagers.
And when his young victims became aware of what was going on during February of this year, they became scared and alarmed by his behaviour.
Yesterday Evans, who has served two prison sentences for sexual offences, narrowly avoided going back to jail when Sheriff William Taylor put him on a curfew as an alternative.
He was banned from leaving his home, at Lower Broomhill, Torphins, Banchory, for the next two years between the hours of 6am-9am and between 3pm-5pm.
He was also ordered to carry out 70 hours of unpaid work within the next nine months.
He was sentenced yesterday having previously admitted causing the schoolgirls fear and alarm for his own sexual gratification.
In 1995 Evans was removed from the dental register after a disciplinary body found he had “overly sedated” five women at his practices in Banchory and Fraserburgh.
They also ruled he had indecently assaulted four of them – including an 11 year-old girl, her mother and a pregnant woman.
At the time he had “flatly denied” the allegations, despite having being jailed the year before for sexually assaulting one of the complainers.
He claimed that the sedatives he gave his patients “must have affected their minds” and said that his assistants were always present when the offences were alleged to have taken place.
The women told the hearing that Evans would slide his hands inside their underwear while they lapsed in and out of consciousness in the dental chair.
He was also reported to have used twice the normal dose of sedative.
Then in 2006 he was put on probation for two years after admitting public indecency in a car park.
Five years later Evans was jailed for two years after he used his mobile phone to take indecent pictures and videos of schoolgirls.
The court heard at the time that he had been motivated by his “sexual fantasies” when he took the images in Aberdeen and Banchory.
And he was only caught when a parent walking children to Mile End Primary School in Aberdeen noticed Evans following the schoolgirls.
Witnesses then phoned the police after noticing he was holding a mobile phone out at waist height and when the device was examined it was discovered he had taken 21 photographs and five videos of girls aged between 10-18.
Representing him in 2011 solicitor advocate Gail Goodfellow said Evans, who is now working as a cabinet maker, had a wife and two children who were “supportive” of him.
She said more than half of the photographs were of girls in uniform walking to what appeared to be a secondary school, while the remainder were taken at a local funfair.
Ms Goodfellow told the court that the offences were “borne out of sexual fantasy”, adding: “That related to the wearing of school uniform and, in particular, legs.”
Evans is on the sex offenders register until 2021.
