Police have appealed for information after two men racially abused and assaulted a passengers on a train from Aberdeen.
As the train travelled between Aberdeen and Perth both men, who were under the influence of alcohol, made inappropriate comments to three young females and directed other, racially offensive remarks, at a family – a man, woman and three young children – in the same coach.
The incident took place the 20.42 Aberdeen to Glasgow Queen Street service on Wednesday, 15 July.
Both men alighted from the train when it arrived at Perth. One of them got back on the train and attempted to punch another man in the coach but struck one of the young females. She did not appear to be seriously injured.
One of the men being sought by BTP is described as about 5’10” in height, aged in his mid-20s, slim build and tattoos on his hands. He was wearing a black tracksuit with white stripes on the sleeves and dark trainers.
The other man is described as also being about 5’10” in height, aged in his mid-late 20s, and stocky build and with dark hair. He was wearing work-style trousers and a black hooded top with orange branding.
Investigating officers will be reviewing CCTV footage in an attempt to identify the men suspected of the offences.
Detective Constable David McAllister, the BTP officer in charge of the enquiry, is appealing for anyone who was on the train or any of the stations to contact him as a matter of urgency. He said:
“The disgusting behaviour of the two men was completely unwarranted, unnecessary and appalled people.”
