Classic and modern MG cars on show in Aberdeenshire this weekend

Aberdeen MG Owners Club will host their annual show at Drum Castle

A procession of classic MG cars will make their way through Aberdeenshire this weekend before an annual show.

The Aberdeen MG Owners Club will host its fourth annual car show at Drum Castle on Sunday, where about 50 of the motors are expected to line the lawns.

Car enthusiasts will be able to admire the range of models on show, ranging from the 1930’s to the present day, and quiz their owners on their cars.

But for those unable to attend Sunday’s show, there will still be the chance to catch a glimpse of the cars as they weave their way through the “Aberdeenshire Castle Country” tour on Saturday.

The group will set off from Drum Castle at 10.30am, and take a leisurely drive to Crathes and Craigievar castles – giving drivers the opportunity to enjoy a run through some of the north-east’s most stunning scenery.

Innes Simpson, of the club, said it was shaping up to be a good weekend.

He said: “We’re sitting at about 46 entries just now, but there’s always a few guys who just turn up on the day too so hopefully we’ll have north of 50 cars on show.

“Because we have got people travelling from a fair distance – we’ve got representatives from Tayside, Fife and Edinburgh – they tend to spend the weekend here so Saturday’s run is designed to give them something to do. As well as seeing the country, we go to some of the National Trust for Scotland’s castles and it’s always very popular.

“Hopefully it will be a dry sunny day for the show.”

Cars will be arriving at Sunday’s show from 9am, with the main event running from noon-4pm.

As well as the cars, there will also be a range of stands and stalls with various games and raffles. The Cindy Douglas Quartet will also be providing some musical entertainment throughout the day.
