A north man has been released from hospital after he suffered serious injuries following a disturbance outside an Aberdeen pub.

The Press and Journal understands the casualty was released from Aberdeen Royal Infirmary (ARI) on Friday, where he had been receiving treatment in intensive care.

The man, who was with his wife and daughter, was involved in an altercation outside the Broadsword Bar and Lounge in Tillydrone, about 1am last Sunday.

The pub had been hosting a charity event earlier that evening to raise funds for a local boy.

All three, who were from Inverness, were subsequently discovered injured at the scene and were taken by ambulance for treatment at ARI.

A family member who lives in the city confirmed the man had been released after spending several days recovering in hospital.

The pub and surrounding area was sealed off for several hours on the day of the discovery while police officers carried out investigations.

Forensic teams were tasked with examining the area where the disturbance took place.

Officers are also understood to have taken CCTV footage from a nearby Co-op supermarket.

Police worked throughout the night at the scene, which covered an area from the bar to the Saint George’s Tillydrone Church.

Churchgoers had to pass police tape to get to the Sunday service, while the Co-op store was shut for most of the day as investigations continued.

A section of Hayton Road was closed off to the public, and the number 19 bus service had to be re-routed.

Shocked residents said they were horrified that a “well-intentioned” evening to raise cash for charity had turned into a crime scene.

Meanwhile, two Aberdeen men have been charged in connection with the incident.

They face three counts of attempted murder and are further accused of assault and possession of drugs.

Both men made no plea and were remanded in custody when they appeared at Aberdeen Sheriff Court on Tuesday.

They are expected to be called before the court again in the next few days.
