Parents in Westhill can have their say on plans to shake-up the catchment areas of the four local primary schools.
A public meeting will be held tomorrow at Crombie Primary School to discuss Aberdeenshire Council’s rezoning plans for the fast-growing town.
Skene, Elrick, Westhill and Crombie primaries will all be affected by the changes, which have been drafted up to cope with the growing number of youngsters living in the town.
Maps featuring the council’s preferred rethink of the boundaries will be on display, with locals being urged to provide feedback.
Under the new proposals, Crombie School would include much of the new Broadshade housing development but would lose
Westhill Heights and many of the roads around Westhill Academy.
Elrick School would include much of the Burnland area – which Skene would drop.
Westhill Primary would include all streets west of Westhill Drive, the areas north and south of the academy and Westhill Heights.
Education committee chairwoman Alison Evison said: “The council is committed to reviewing and enhancing the school estate and ensuring that people are involved.
“Rezoning involves looking at the catchment area of schools to see if they cover the right area.
“We want to look at this for the primary schools in Westhill and I encourage parents to take part in the survey and come to the event.”
Councillor Fergus Hood, chairman of the Garioch area committee, said the rezoning plans were “important for people living in the Westhill area”.
He added: “It is important that the council involves people in the process of looking at catchment areas for schools as it impacts on future planning.”
The council’s consultation will run until October 9.
The meeting will take place from 7pm until 9pm.
