A plane carrying oil workers bound for Aberdeen slid off the runway in Rotterdam following a warning signal from the flight deck.

The chartered Saab 340, operated by Flybe franchise Loganair, took off yesterday afternoon, however a warning signal went off in the flight deck instructing the plane to return to the airport.

The plane landed at the Rotterdam airport around 4:35pm local time where it was brought to a halt, but due to an issue with the hydraulics it subsequently rolled off the runway.

The 17 passengers on board the stricken aircraft jumped from the doors onto the grass below.

No-one was injured.

A Loganair spokesman said: “The captain of an aircraft operating one of our private charter services bound for Aberdeen returned to Rotterdam Airport shortly after take-off yesterday afternoon following a warning signal from the flight deck.

“The aircraft landed safely at the airport around 4:35pm local time where it was brought to a halt, but subsequently rolled just off the runway due to an issue with the hydraulics.

“As is standard procedure, the aircraft was met by the airport’s emergency services.

“All 17 passengers disembarked the aircraft safely, returned to the terminal by bus and a replacement service was dispatched from Glasgow to take them on to Aberdeen.

“We would like to apologise to our customers for the inconvenience they experienced yesterday.”
