An Aberdeen beauty queen has been chosen to represent Scotland at an international competition.

Lyndsey Beckwith flew out to South Korea yesterday to take part in Miss Global Beauty Queen 2015.

The 27-year-old, who works as a senior administrator for NHS Grampian, had just 24 hours to get packed up and ready for the pageant when her selection was confirmed at the 11th hour.

It was only when she checked her emails on Saturday morning that she realised she had been chosen to take part.

Her flight to Seoul – with a stopover in London – left Aberdeen early yesterday.

She said: “It has all happened so fast – it has been a hit of a whirlwind.

“I didn’t realise the flight was the very next morning.

“I just spent the day running around like a headless chicken.

“I am quite lucky because I already have quite a lot of the things I’ll need.”

Miss Beckwith’s road to beauty queen success began earlier this year when she was crowned Miss Year Aberdeen 2015.

She also won Miss British Empire Grampian 2015 and was first runner-up in the Miss British Empire Scotland 2015 competition.

Miss Beckwith, who has lived in Aberdeen for two years, but originally hails from Hetton-Le-Hole in north-east England, said travelling to Korea was a once in a lifetime opportunity.

The competition, featuring 38 contestants from countries as far flung as Australia, Brazil and Kazakhstan, gets underway today with the final taking place on October 17.

Miss Beckwith, who lives with boyfriend George Mccluskie in the Mastrick area of the city, said taking part could be a platform to all sorts of new opportunities.

Although she travelled to Korea alone, she said her family, especially mum Jan, were rooting for her back home.

She said: “She was absolutely over the moon for me. I’ve had so many wellwishers.

“It really is a once in a lifetime opportunity.”

Miss Beckwith also thanked sponsor, Aberdeen firm NCompass Piping Ltd, for all its support.

Miss Global Beauty Queen was last held in Korea in 2011 and won by Mariana Notarangelo from Brazil.

Mariana went on to represent Brazil in Miss World 2012 and was part of the Top 7.
