A drugs courier who travelled hundreds of miles to distribute his gear in Aberdeen has been jailed for four years.
Anthony Carr made his way by bus from his hometown of Liverpool with nearly £15,000 worth of cocaine and more than £24,000 of heroin on March 21 this year.
Yesterday the 35-year-old, of Woolfall Crescent, Liverpool, admitted being concerned in the supply of the illicit substances when he appeared from custody at Aberdeen Sheriff Court.
The court heard that Carr arrived by a National Express bus at about 10.20am, and was followed by police as he was acting suspiciously.
He dumped his holdall, and when police retrieved it they discovered the Class A drugs inside, which had been cut into hundreds of “deal size” packages.
A forensic examination showed Carr’s DNA on the bags and he was traced, the court heard.
The court heard he had a “considerable” drugs debt that he hoped to pay off by acting as a courier to deliver the substances to the Granite City.
But Sheriff Graham Buchanan said only prison would be appropriate given the amounts involved and sentenced him to four years in jail.
