Pupils and members of the community have laid countless bouquets of flowers in tribute to tragic teenager Bailey Gwynne.
Police and ambulance crews were called to Cults Academy at 1.30pm yesterday (October 28) afternoon and, although victim Bailey Gwynne was rushed to hospital, emergency services were unable to save him.
Police have launched a murder investigation while another 16-year-old pupil has been detained.
Chief Inspector Graeme Mackie said: “This is a shocking and extraordinary incident for Aberdeen and firstly our thoughts are with the family and friends of the boy who has sadly lost his life today.
“A full and thorough enquiry is under way has been launched and there will be a police presence in the area for the foreseeable future.
“We are working closely with the education authorities and wider community as I am sure this incident will be felt not only in Aberdeen but much further afield.”
Hundreds of tributes have now been paid online while scores off people have also left flowers and tributes outside the school.
What started with a sombre procession of three young men (see video) has cascaded to a wall of floral tributes to the young man who “went to school and never came home.”
One letter attached to a bouquet reads: “My thoughts are with you and your family at this tragic (time) and with my fellow students who have shocked and despair at you leaving us. The empty seat you leave behind in class will always be a reminder of the silent but kind boy who I took for granted seeing alive everyday. I hope now you are in a better place. Kiera. xx”
