Bailey Gwynne’s family say tributes to son would have “meant a lot to” him

The family of Bailey Gwynne today said thank you for all the kind words and support they have received following his death.

Their statement comes after they made a private visit to Cults Academy over the weekend to look at the floral tributes laid for Bailey.

In a statement today, the family said: “Thank you for all your help. Your kinds words and the lovely things you have left for Bailey.

“It means a lot and it would have meant a lot to Bailey.

“For all of you that were part of his life, however big or small, thank you for being there.”

Today, First Minister Nicola Sturgeon is in the city for a private meeting with the police officer who is leading the investigation into Bailey Gwynne’s death, as well as council leaders.

Fifth-year pupil Bailey died on Wednesday after an incident at Cults Academy.

This morning, the comprehensive school opened for the first time since his death, with more than 1,000 pupils going back to classes.

Ms Sturgeon said: “My thoughts remain with Bailey’s loved ones and, indeed, all of those who knew him following this heartbreaking incident.”
