Students have managed to raise over £1800 for a national charity by setting up donation points across the region.

Unite Students in Aberdeen raised £1,814 for Cancer Research UK by creating donation stations in residences and collecting unwanted, saleable items from employees and students, such as clothing, accessories and homeware

In all of Unite’s 138 properties across the UK, the company has engaged with its employees and the 46,000 students who have made Unite their home, to give them the opportunity to become involved in fundraising, volunteering and donating items to the charity.

Together, Unite Students across the UK have helped raise £120,000 for life-saving research.

Richard Smith, managing director of operations at Unite Students, said: “Everyone is motivated to participate and engage in community projects and fundraising efforts, and we strongly encourage this across the business.

“We are delighted to have been able to make such a fantastic contribution to Cancer Research UK in 2015, a charity that many people have a strong affiliation with for various reasons.

“Unite Students lives up to its values, one of which is We Care.

“A huge well done to everyone involved; it goes to show what a great impact we can have if we work together.”

Lynn Muller, head of retail product operations at Cancer Research UK, said: “Every step we make towards beating cancer relies on every pound, every hour and every person, so we’re extremely grateful to Unite Students for their support and the vital contribution they’ve made to our life-saving work.”
