Aberdeen Inspired has confirmed that the programme of live music at the Aberdeen Christmas Village will resume on Saturday, December 26.

Performances at the weekend were controversially cancelled due to two complaints from the public about noise levels.

This provoked criticism from some of the musicians involved, who described the move as an “over-reaction”.

However, following a meeting of the interested parties yesterday, a compromise has been reached, whereby the music programme will start again this weekend.

A spokesperson for Aberdeen Inspired, which has spearheaded the delivery of the village with partners Aberdeen City Council and Codona’s, said: “The decision to curtail the live music at the weekend was not taken lightly.

“Understandably, there has been a great deal of discussion about the best way forward and we are pleased the situation has been resolved.

“The popularity of the live music was demonstrated by the strength of the reaction to the decision to cancel performances, but that course of action was required to allow the options to be assessed.

“Having done that and after listening to the public’s view, we are preparing for the programme to continue this weekend.”

“We are delighted many more people will now be able to enjoy live music at the village.”

The news was welcomed by Tom Simmonds, the owner of Fat Hippy Records, who has been instrumental in devising the music programme.

He said: “It was disappointing what happened, but this is a good outcome and it means we can go ahead with gigs on Boxing Day and on New Year’s Eve.

“Everybody really wants to make this festival a success, the response to it has been very positive, and the musicians all want to play.

“And now they will get the chance to do so.”
