A north-east man has driven off in a new Mini thanks to a charity close to his heart.

Bob Anderson won Clan Cancer Support’s annual raffle, and has now been handed the keys to his new motor.

Mr Anderson, of Aboyne, was keen to support Clan as they helped his wife, Maureen, during her battle with breast cancer.

Although she died last summer, Mr Anderson is keen to do his bit to help charities assist others in their time of need.

Mr Anderson said: “She was helped by a number of cancer charities with her care, we always tried to support their fundraising efforts however we could, and buying raffle tickets here and there.

“It was amazing that my ticket turned out to be the winning one, especially as I bought it on the day.

“Local charities like Clan make such a difference to people and I think it is very important that they are supported.”

More than £56,500 was raised for the charity in this year’s raffle, although the final total is still being counted.

The raffle is an integral part of Clan’s fundraising, and is run by members of the 22 rotary clubs in Aberdeen and the north-east.

Susan Crighton, Clan’s fundraising manager, said: “We are thrilled to have presented Bob with the Mini now, although he took some persuading from the Rotary and myself to believe that he had won.

“We all hope he enjoys it, particularly given the difficult time he has been going through.”
