Aberdeen man punched and kicked girlfriend

A north-east man who attacked his girlfriend must wait until next month to learn his fate.

Paul Coates grabbed Rebecca Crichton by the neck, punched and kicked her and poured wine over her during the attack at his home in Aberdeen last year.

The 24-year-old also shouted and swore at her, and threw her handbag out of a window.

Coates, of 29 Hazlehead Terrace, previously admitted the offences and was due to be sentenced at Aberdeen Sheriff Court yesterday.

But the court heard he had failed to meet with social workers so they can prepare a background report to help a sheriff determine his punishment.

He claimed he had not received any notification of an appointment, and admitted he had put the order to the back of his mind over the festive period.

Sheriff William Taylor said he would give Coates “one more chance” to meet with social workers.

Sheriff Taylor granted bail for Coates but reminded him that his offence was a “serious one” and he must comply with the court’s instruction.
