North-east music fans have paid tribute to the indie band, Viola Beach, who were killed in a car crash on Stockholm on Sunday.

Kris Leonard, River Reeves, Tomas Lowe, Jack Dakin and their manager, Craig Tarry, died when their vehicle plunged more than 25m from a bridge into a canal.

The group had been scheduled to perform at Aberdeen venue, Tunnels, on March 2, with Blossoms and Vyrll Society.

And fans quickly took to social media to lament the news.
Carol Munro from Insch said on Facebook: “So so sad to hear the news about Viola Beach. Too young and too talented. Life is cruel.”

Jeff Bruce, from Aberdeen, said simply: “RIP Viola Beach!!

Scott Cummings, from Peterhead, added his response: “This year seems to bring so much bad news. Viola Beach had so much potential and now it has been taken away.”

There are no plans as yet on how the concert organisers – Aberdeen Performing Arts – will mark the band’s passing.
