Welsh diva Katherine Jenkins raised the roof when she hit the high notes at a one-off charity concert in Aberdeen last week.
Now the classical singing sensation has raised the bank balance of Aberdeen-founded social care charity Cornerstone with a £30,000 donation.
The mezzo soprano belted out a string of hits to a near sell-out crowd at the His Majesty’s Theatre show earlier this month.
The BP-sponsored event was organised by the Lord Provost’s Charitable Trust which chose Cornerstone to be the concert’s beneficiary.
The charity’s chief executive Edel Harris said Cornerstone was “very grateful” to be chosen as beneficiary of what had been a “fantastic night”.
He added: “The £30,000 raised will be a tremendous support to our work providing specialist services for adults, young people and children across the north-east who have learning disabilities, physical disabilities and other complex support needs.”
Hundreds of music fans attended the concert where they enjoyed a mix of operatic arias and popular music.
Favourite renditions included Habanera from Bizet’s Carmen, Somewhere Over The Rainbow from The Wizard of Oz, and Leonard Cohen’s Hallelujah.
During the show, Ms Jenkins also revealed it was her first time on the road with newborn daughter Aaliyah, who has been left at home since she was born in September.
Throughout the evening, Ms Jenkins was accompanied on stage by local talents Zoe Hodi, a 15-year-old violinist from Aberdeen City Music School, and the Granite City’s very own Con Anima Chamber Choir.
Zoe won over the crowd with perfect renditions of Meditation from the opera Thais, and Allegro from Concerto in A Minor.
Ms Jenkins also backed the youngster, telling the crowd to keep an eye on the “rising star”.
The choristers of Con Anima gave an equally amazing performance, providing backing for Ms Jenkins on a handful of her songs, most notably on the Vera Lynn classic We’ll Meet Again.
Talking about the event, Aberdeen Lord Provost George Adam, said: “This was a very special one-off concert for the Lord Provost’s Charitable Trust and I am delighted that so much money was raised for Cornerstone, through ticket sales and additional generous donations on the night.”
