Drivers are being warned over road conditions this morning after the Met Office issued a weather warning for the north of Scotland.

Following snow earlier in the week, the Met Office have issued a yellow warning for icy conditions this morning.

The warning states that “clear periods have allowed icy stretches to form on untreated surfaces overnight” and that wintry showers may move inland this morning.

The warning comes after two men were rushed to hospital yesterday after a brace of crashes involving lorries on north-east roads.

One collision, involving a silver Mitsubishi which was trailing a horse box and a Renault truck, took place on the B9001 Forgue to Inverurie road, near Rothienorman, just after 11am.

Police, fire and rescue and ambulance services were called to the scene.

The Mitsubishi was propelled into a stone dyke in the front garden of a neighbouring property during the incident, with the driver’s side left a crumpled ruin.

Elsewhere, an elderly man was taken to hospital in a “stable condition” following a crash on the North Deeside Road at Culter at about 11.40am.

Police and ambulance services were called to the collision between a silver Audi A1 and a Ford Iveco lorry outside the Marks and Spencers BP petrol station at 11am.

The road was partially blocked around the incident.

An ambulance spokesman said the man had not suffered injuries in the crash, but required hospital due to a separate medical matter.
