A city centre councillor has called for tougher security measures following Sunday’s sex attack at Union Terrace Gardens.
Councillor Bill Cormie said he believed the incident, and the previous rape earlier in the year, highlighted a need for better security at the gardens.
Councillor Cormie said: “It’s very sad to hear that another incident has happened down there.
“I think that it’s time that the council reconsiders its stance now, and lock the gates as they used to be.
“There’s nothing there for folk at night to see really, it’s a garden, there are no floral displays to see when it’s pitch black, and the arches aren’t really the best place for folk to congregate.
“It’s attracting the wrong sort of people.
“I’ll certainly be speaking to officers about looking into locking the gates as we did in the past.”
