Police Scotland has urged motorists to belt up and avoid risking their children’s lives.
Three children, aged from eight to 12, were found without seat belts on Aberdeen’s Beach esplanade last week.
On March 24, Road Policing officers saw a car being driven on the esplanade while three children were standing completely unrestrained in the rear seat area.
The vehicle was stopped and the obvious dangers were pointed out to the driver. The children were found to be aged between 8 years and 12 years.
Inspector Jon Barron of the Divisional Road Policing Unit said, “Had there been a collision, or had the driver to brake harshly for whatever reason, the possible consequences could not be clearer.
“Wearing a seat belt will massively reduce these risks. Please wear a seat belt at all times and ensure all passengers and children carried in your vehicle are properly restrained. Please keep them safe – Please Don’t Risk It!’’
The driver, a 42-year-old female, has been reported to the Procurator Fiscal.
