An Aberdeen man who spent a night in the cells in France after he and his friends were marched off a flight has been released.

Offshore worker Alistair Thompson and 23 others were taken off a plane bound for Magaluf on Saturday, after the air crew became concerned about their “disruptive” behaviour.

The pilot diverted to Toulouse, where the police were waiting for the group – who were on Huntly FC midfielder Alex Thoirs’s stag.

And although Mr Thoirs and the majority of the group were allowed to continue on to Majorca, Mr Thompson was kept overnight in France.

It is now understood that Mr Thompson is now back home in Aberdeen, after being released by the French authorities.

Before he set off on the easyJet Glasgow to Palma flight, he took a picture of himself wearing the T-shirt of the stag party and posted online: “Time for Thoir’s stagger, we will make it a good one for you bro.”

Other members of the group claim they have now been “blacklisted” by the budget airline.

Last night the Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) said they had not been contacted about the case.

A spokeswoman said: “We weren’t made aware of the case that the time so we didn’t have any involvement.

“We have not received any requests for consular assistance.”

French police could not be contacted last night.

An easyJet spokeswoman said: “easyJet can confirm that flight EZY6895 from Glasgow to Palma on May 21 diverted to Toulouse due to the disruptive behaviour of a group of passengers onboard.

“The safety and wellbeing of customers and crew is always our priority and upon landing the passengers were escorted off the aircraft by Police. The aircraft then continued to Palma.”
