People in Aberdeen city centre were given a free preview of a dance show currently on tour in Scotland yesterday.
Five Soldiers aims to bring modern warfare to life through dance and the performers turned up outside Marks and Spencer and treated shoppers to a glimpse of their routines.
They began with a march before running and carrying out breathing exercises.
Towards the climax, four of the dancers picked up the fifth and carried her along.
The show was later performed at the Gordon Highlanders Museum – which is the final destination of its five-week tour across Scotland.
Director Rosie Kay said the reaction across the country to the show had been positive.
She added: “It’s been overwhelming, we’ve had a lot of sold-out houses across the country.
“I first created the show years ago and we were on tour across England last year and it’s great to go on tour across Scotland.”
She also explained how the idea for the show materialised, declaring: “I suffered an injury onstage and was told my career was over.
“I then had a strange dream that my leg had been blown off.
“It was then I correlated how I train and how my body is key to my identity and had the idea of how soldiers must train.
“The overall aim was to humanise something which has become politicised.
“At the time I wrote it, there were huge injuries in Afghanistan which were not in the news as much as they had been.”
The show will be performed at the Gordon Highlanders again tonight – and two north-east dance groups will be given a unique opportunity to be part of the action.
Members of Fusion and Music 4 U will spend a day with the dancers before getting the chance to perform on stage ahead of the show.
