A special church service will be held in Aberdeen to celebrate the Queen’s 90th birthday, it has been revealed.
The Kirk of St Nicholas Uniting will host the service of celebration and thanksgiving on June 12, the weekend of Her Majesty’s official birthday, to coincide with national celebrations.
The Lord Provost of Aberdeen George Adam, who is also Her Majesty’s Lord Lieutenant in the city, will attend the service along with representatives from public office and members of the Armed Forces.
The service, which will begin at 3pm, is open to the general public and anyone from organisations connected to Her Majesty are encouraged to join the congregation of well-wishers.
The Lord Provost said: “Her Majesty The Queen is a great example of dedication and devotion to us all. Her service to the country is unsurpassed.
!The Queen has a very special place in the hearts of the people of Aberdeen and it’s wonderful that the city has an opportunity to come together and celebrate her official birthday.”
The Queen became the nation’s longest serving Monarch in September 2015 when she surpassed the reign of her great-great-grandmother Queen Victoria.
Her Majesty has a long association with Aberdeen, notably performing her very first speaking engagement in the city in 1944 as a young Princess, and visiting Aberdeen during her Silver, Golden and Diamond Jubilee years.
