A pageant of sport and eclectic range of physical activities for senior citizens will get under way in Aberdeen this week.
During the Golden Games, almost 450 pensioners will take part in around 80 different activities across the city.
And, as if to prove age is just a number, one of the people involved in the care home pentathlon is 106 years young!
The award-winning free festival will commence for the sixth time on Thursday with all manner of activities from wall-climbing and swimming to abseiling, archery and gym sessions on the schedule.
The programme concludes with a social event at the Beach Ballroom on Friday, June 17, where the Pearl Mitchell Memorial Trophy will be given to the individual or organisation, for whom the games have been a life-changing experience.
The event has flourished through a collegiate approach from Aberdeen Health and Social Care Partnership, Aberdeen FC Community Trust, Sport Aberdeen, Aberdeen Sports Village, Aberdeen City Council and NHS Grampian.
Judith Proctor, chief officer at Aberdeen Health and Social Care Partnership, said: “The Golden Games has proved to be an inspiring initiative.
“It has drawn interest from across the UK and among our European twin cities, who all want to know what we have achieved in Aberdeen.
“The games now have a six-year track record of success.
“I am proud of what the event has contributed to the health and well-being of older people in the city and I am sure the Games will continue to go from strength to strength.”
