It has filled the city and north-east with the sights and sounds of music, theatre and dance.
But today the curtain will come down on the Aberdeen International Youth Festival.
His Majesty’s Theatre will host groups from around the world as they stage the International Variety Gala to mark the end of the week-long spectacle.
Performing today will be Indonesian group The Tim Muhibah Angklung Orchestra, led by Maulana Syuhada.
Having been to the festival once before, back in 2004, Mr Syuhada said he was “thrilled” to be able to return to Aberdeen and that he believed it would be a life-changing experience for the 40 secondary school pupils who make up the orchestra.
When Mr Syuhada visited more than a decade ago, he and his musicians only reached their destination by raising funds en route.
And he said that even then, he knew they would return one day.
He said: “This year we were incredibly lucky and a local bank from back home sponsored us to be here after listening to our music.
“Last time it was a real struggle to make it is as the orchestra simply didn’t have the money to travel this far, but to now all be here and performing in the prestigious variety gala, we are thrilled.”
Since his last visit, Mr Syuhada has had a book published about his time travelling to the festival, and it is now being adapted for the big screen with the title 40 Days in Europe.
Mr Syuhada said: “I hope that the book and the film can be some inspiration for Indonesian people to become involved in performing arts and I believe this trip will inspire all the students that have come along.
“We are very honoured to be performing in the gala – but also cannot wait to see what other orchestras do.
“Aberdeen is always incredibly welcoming and the people always give a huge applause and seem to enjoy the performance.
“The festival has been great this year and I hope I will one day make it back again.”
The variety gala offers a sample of both the local and international talent at the festival.
Also performing today will be the North Shore Celtic Ensemble from Canada, Seed Dance from Malta, Dance Africa from Ghana and Noelia and Javier from Spain.
