Man in court accused of flashing children at Stonehaven pool

A man has denied flashing at children at a north-east swimming pool.

Alexander Shepherd appeared from custody at Aberdeen Sheriff Court to face two charges of indecent exposure.

It is alleged the 60-year-old flashed at children aged under 13 on two occasions at Stonehaven’s open air swimming pool.

Court papers state that on August 6 and 17 this year Shepherd, of Bedford Road, Aberdeen, went to the baths and exposed himself “in a sexual manner” to young boys.

Fiscal depute Colin Neilson requested that Shepherd be released on bail on two special conditions.

He asked Sheriff Alison Stirling to stop him from having contact with any children or visiting any public pool in Scotland until the date of his trial.

But the sheriff said she felt those conditions were excessive and banned the hotel worker only from entering the pool in Stonehaven where the offences are alleged to have happened.

He will go on trial in November.

One of the alleged incidents was reported by a couple visiting the north-east from Tayside.

They had taken their children to Stonehaven for a day out and went to the Aberdeenshire Council-owned pool.

The husband became concerned by the behaviour of a man who spent a long time in the changing room area.

Meanwhile, another man appeared in court yesterday accused of flashing two women and children in Aberdeen’s Bon Accord Gardens on Wednesday.

Police said the incident happened around 5.45pm and that a 51-year-old had been charged.

Officers are still appealing for anyone with information on the incident to contact the police.
