Plans have been lodged to transform a former north-east primary school into two homes.
Property agents KL Reid Associates wants to convert the former education building in Longside on behalf of client Mark Buchan.
The developers have agreed to buy the property on the village’s Inn Brae subject to planning permission for the conversion being granted.
The proposals for the site, which overlooks Longside’s modern primary school building, include creating two four-bed homes.
In a supporting statement to council planners, the developer said: “The applicant has agreed the purchase of the redundant buildings from Aberdeenshire Council subject to planning permission being granted for the proposed change of use and is seeking to retain and maintain the existing building which is much preferable to the building being neglected and the fabric of said building deteriorating into any further disrepair.”
Until a deal was struck between the applicant and Aberdeenshire Council, the former school had lain empty for more than a decade.
Detailed plans for the homes have not been drawn up yet as the current application is only to change the use of the site from a school to housing.
The application is open to public comment until February and a final decision is expected in early March.
