Plans for trampoline park in Aberdeenshire town backed by councillors

Councillors have given the go-ahead to an “imaginative” project to create a trampolining centre in Inverurie.

Aberdeenshire Council’s Garioch area committee yesterday backed the transformation of the former Anderson’s Furniture warehouse into the family facility.

The plans for the trampoline park at Highclere Business Park were lodged by Jam-Tech Ltd.

The centre will include a cafe and party facilities, with the trampolines able to accommodate up to 108 people.

The proposals attracted three objections, with some locals concerned about the possibility of late-night parties and car parking.

However, council planners recommended the proposals be backed as a departure from the 2012 Aberdeenshire local development plan (LDP).

Senior planner Bruce Strachan said: “Environmental health haven’t considered this proposals to have any significant impact.”

Inverurie and District Tory councillor, Colin Clark, quizzed planners if the centre would be licensed.

However, chairman of the committee and East Garioch Lib Dem member, Fergus Hood, said this would be a “separate issue” for the licensing board in the future.

Aberdeenshire Provost and Inverurie and District SNP councillor, Hamish Vernal, added: “Noise pollution, potential light pollution, potential licences are all covered by other bodies that can take action on that should it ever arise.

“I think this is a very imaginative scheme, one that should be supported. I certainly endorse them. It will be a welcome addition to the facilities in Inverurie.”

The developer has said about 50 new jobs could be created at the trampoline centre.

It would operate from 9.30am-8pm between Sunday and Thursday and from 9.30am to 9pm on Friday and Saturday.

A maximum of 105 car park spaces would be created if the scheme is given the green light.
