Motorists will have to slow down in future on a stretch of the A96 Aberdeen to Inverness road in Aberdeenshire, because Transport Scotland is set to introduce a new speed limit.
The limit at Pitmachie, between Pitcaple and Colpy, will be reduced from 60mph to 50mph.
The decision has been made, following Transport Scotland’s review of speed limits on the trunk road network, although the organisation has still to announce the exact date when the limit will come into force.
A spokesperson said: “After a review of all the speed limits on the trunk road network, it was recommended a 50mph local speed limit be introduced on the A96 at Pitmachie.
“This is due to the number of junctions, accesses, residential properties, businesses and non-motorised users along the route.
“The new speed limit is expected to come into force in the coming months.”
West Garioch councillor, Sheena Lonchay, welcomed the news and said: “I’m pleased to hear the limit will be reduced.
“For the people that live by the roadside, I’m sure it will be reassuring.
“It will also be reassuring for bus passengers because there is a bus stop at both sides of the road, so if this makes it easier for people to cross the road, that can only be a good thing.
“It’s a very fast stretch of road and you also have the turn-off to Old Rayne and not everyone is aware that people can be slowing to turn off.”
