North-east swimming star celebrates engagement to partner at Edinburgh Zoo

Swimming champion Hannah Miley had a different reason to celebrate yesterday – after getting engaged.

The unsuspecting Commonwealth Games champion was a on trip to Edinburgh Zoo when her boyfriend Euan Duff popped the question.

Yesterday Miss Miley took to social media to share her good news.

The 27-year-old, from Inverurie, branded it the “biggest surprise ever.”

She said: “What I thought was genuinely a wee visit to the zoo turned out to be the most exciting day ever.

“Little did I know Euan Duff had masterminded the biggest surprise ever.

“Just casually posting pictures on my story of the zoo visit, a few people said they saw it coming but I genuinely didn’t.”

She added: “Have to say we are super happy and I can’t believe what Euan did to put this surprise together.

“Thanks to Edinburgh Zoo for making the day so special.”

She also uploaded a picture of the couple and with her wearing her new engagement ring.

And within hours hundreds had commented on the post to congratulate the pair.

Fellow athletes were among those to join in the celebrations.

Rebecca Adlington said: “Hugh congratulations to you both.”

Sharron Davies MBE added: “Hannah how wonderful, many congratulations to both of you.”

Miss Miley has represented Great Britain at the Olympic Games on three occasions.

She resident finished sixth in the individual medley 2009, fifth in 2012 and fourth in 2016.

She also took part in the 2010 Commonwealth Games where she won a gold medal in the 400 metres and repeated the accomplishment four years later in Glasgow.
