An Aberdeenshire dad delivered his new baby daughter at the side of a busy road after she “couldn’t wait to get to hospital”.
Graeme and Kerry Milne, from Huntly, went into labour on Thursday night and her husband Graeme rushed her down the A96 towards Aberdeen Maternity Hospital.
But shortly after leaving their hometown, it became clear that little Isla Jayne had different plans for her arrival into the world.
Mr Milne pulled over and phoned 999 who dispatched an ambulance.
But the baby could not wait and Mr Milne had to stay on the line as the operator talked him through delivering his new daughter.
The 41-year-old, who works in construction, said he had never expected to play such a role but that instinct had “kicked in” and allowed for a safe delivery.
He said: “We knew it was happening obviously but it seems she wanted to come out a bit quicker.
“Kerry was having her first contractions at around 6.40pm and we’d set off from Huntly about an hour later.
“It was then I had to pull over and phone the ambulance because it didn’t look like we were going to make it to Aberdeen.
“I have never done anything like it before, I had done a first aid course at my work but not much else.
“I dialled 999 and luckily the woman stayed on the line and talked me through everything.
“I don’t really remember much about the birth, it was like something just kicked in for me and I was able to do it.
“When the ambulance I arrived I don’t think I’ve ever been so glad.”
Delighted mum Mrs Milne, 31, announced the arrival on social media, writing: “Welcome to the world Isla Jayne Milne. Born 10.08.17 at 19.52 weighing 6lb 15oz and delivered by her daddy in the car at the edge of the A96 as she couldn’t wait to get to the hospital.
“Big sister Faye delighted with the new addition to the Milne household.”
The family are now back home in Huntly, and settling into life as a family of four.
Mr Milne added: “We’re delighted”.
